Staff

Robert Martin, Pastor

photo Rob
Pastor Rob Martin received his Master of Divinity from Wartburg Theological Seminary in Dubuque, Iowa. In previous incarnations Pr. Rob has worked in the field of Living History museums as an interpreter, researcher, animal wrangler, youth volunteer coordinator, and “experience manager.” He is a veteran of the US Army and of mom & pop pizza joints. He is a convinced peacenik. He was a (ridiculously) long-time student and remains a life-long learner. Pr. Rob came to Lutheranism late in life, drawn by a lived theology of grace. He and his family have been settling nicely into Tulsa since late November, 2012.

Kent Dennis, Minister of Music

We welcome our new Minister of Music, Kent Dennis.  Kent also works with the students at Cascia Hall school and local symphonic groups. A very gifted musician, the First Lutheran Music Program currently includes adult choir, handbell choir, and various musicians and instrumentalists.

Melanie Schnell, Secretary
Melanie Schnell is a lifelong member of First. I am married to Bill and have two grown daughters, Beth and Angela, who are both married to wonderful men, Alex and Alex! I have one grandson, James, who keeps me on my toes! I am a retired elementary school teacher and now I try to keep tabs on my mother, Elaine Renning, and babysit my grandson while his mom goes back to college. Recently I have not been active in the church but previously I was in the adult choir, President of the Board that developed the First Lutheran Early Learning Center, played piano and sang in the contemporary band that helped lead the contemporary service we used to have, and was on Altar Guild. I enjoy spending time gardening, cheering for my OSU Cowboys, and relaxing at our lake place on Grand Lake, fishing and boating.

He has grown twins sons and lives in the Pearl district. When he is not working, Gregg enjoys sailing, flying, unusual cars, and gardening.

Sara Brightwell came to First Lutheran Church in 1995 after looking for a Lutheran church to get married in, that “looked” like a traditional Lutheran church like she grew up in. She and her husband have one daughter. Many years were spent with children’s and youth activities and confirmation classes. More recently she has been involved with Choir, Prayer Shawl Ministry, communion assistant and reader during worship. Outside of church she loves to watch her daughter play basketball.
